Genealogy is popular. Bjørn Boge from Moss has now released his sixth family book, and it covers a branch of the Boga family.

-To find out about the family is fun, but it requires much work. The job is to systematize all the information one has, and get and make sure things are correct. The aim has not been to lead family ties as far back as possible, but lead family ties up to the present day, to find out who we are related and where they live today, says Bjørn Boge.

Register for "Sortland bygdebok : gård og slekt"

As earlier Johan Borgos, transmitted over the the register to his last "bygdebok". This material is now posted on Slekt1 and is fully searchable.

The book was launched on the 2th of November last year and covers areas from Gåsbøl to Osvoll (farm numbers 22-33 + 1 and 2) and from Kinn to Røkenes (farm numbers 61-69). With this addition, more than 62,000 + people are now searchable in the "bygdebok" registers on Slekt1.

Donated genealogy catalogue to the municipality

Hans-Magne Eikeland has for years worked with a "Slektsbank" (genealogy catalogue) for Sunnhordland and Hardanger. The genealogy catalogue is the result of a comprehensive systematic work of family history material based mainly on "bygdebøker", but also with the support of oral sources.

In total the material includes about 10,000 pages and much of this is searchable via Stord library's website. On Wednesday 18th of January, the genealogy catalogue was officially donated to Stord municipality, who has also worked with the technical solution of the computerized version.

The end of handwritten parish registers

According to the newspaper "Aura Avis" is now an almost 400 years long tradition of handwritten parish registers comming to an end. For future genealogists it will thus be even easier to find ancestors in the historical record.

Alvdal got a new "bygdebok"

About five years after it was begun, could "bygdebok" author Alf Eggset and head of the "Bygdebok" board Britt Steien Rasmussen last Saturday present the first volume of the new "bygdebok" from Alvdal.

The "bygdebok" series is planned in a total of three volumes and the first volume which is titled "Bygda og nordmed Glåma" (The village and north by the river Glåma), has been printed in a total of 2,500 copies. In addition to newly gathered material, the book is also based on the material collected by Einar Steimoeggen.
