The family came from Fusa

Genealogy is popular. Bjørn Boge from Moss has now released his sixth family book, and it covers a branch of the Boga family.

-To find out about the family is fun, but it requires much work. The job is to systematize all the information one has, and get and make sure things are correct. The aim has not been to lead family ties as far back as possible, but lead family ties up to the present day, to find out who we are related and where they live today, says Bjørn Boge.

- Looking up in the Yellow Pages [in Norway], you'll find 479 people with the name Boge, and 43 with the last name Boga. I have realized that not all of these are related to me, the greatest Boge / Boga branch comes from Bogøy in Samnanger. But my ancestors come from Strandvik in Fusa, and the genealogy overview starts with Berge Anderson Dalland, who in 1865 married to the farm in Boga in Strandvik, through marriage with Karin Marlene Engelsdatter Boga. They got three children.

The oldest of the children Maria Legland was married to Anders Haldorson Legland in 1885. They lived in Strandvik, got five children. The descendants in this area call themselves today Legland, Vik and Krüger, lives among other places in Strandvik, Stord, Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger, Moss and Fusa. Child number two was called Marta Havsgård. She was married in 1909 to Engel Havsgård. They lived all their years in Havskor in Fusa, they got no children. The youngest man was Johannes Bergeson Boga. He took over the Boga farm in upper Strandvik after his parents. He was in 1897 married with Anne Kristine Lillevik. They had nine children, who today mainly call themselves Boga, Boge or Nordeide. The descendants are living mainly from Austevoll to Stavanger, with emphasis at Bergen, Stord, Karmøy, Haugesund, and various locations in Hardanger and the south-eastern part of Norway.

- I have also included an appendix on the parents and siblings of Anne Kristine Lillevik, who came from Vik in Strandvik. One of her half-sisters, Marta Hauge, emigrated to America and settled outside of Seattle, WA. She got four children and several grandchildren. Several of these have been back to Strandvik, to look at where the origin in Norway came from. We also have family living in New York.

Bjørn is the fifth generation after Marlene and Berge Anderson Boga. The genealogical list consists of about 200 pages and includes over 300 pictures of family members, and counts more than 250 names of people who are all related.

I have come in contact with many nice people. Most amusing was that I was a fourth cousin with Hålandsdalens big queen - Liv Grethe Skjelbreid Poirée [Norwegian Skier].

I am not getting rich moneywise this, but I will be rich in conscience, to know that I have made a solid contribution to future generations, says Bjørn Boge in Moss.
