How to compress your family photos

Do you own a lot of pictures you’d prefer to have in another size? Maybe they are too big to use on a webpage, in a document or to send by e-mail? There is a brilliant little program which can solve your problem quickly and effectively. The best thing about it is that it’s completely free and can be easily downloaded to your computer.

With the program Pixreziser you may choose either to compress pictures one at a time or whole folders of photos in one simple operation. All these compressed picture files  are copies, so they do not alter your original picture files in any way.

How to compress a single picture:

1. Open the Pixreziser program.
2. Choose "Work with one file" (this is the standard setup)
3. Click on Load Picture
4. Select the new size for your photo. You may choose from predefined sizes or define your own. In the latter case you should remember to tick on the box "Maintain aspect ratio", which ensures the image isn’t elongated out of proportion but maintains its original ratio between height and breadth.
5. Now you may choose your file format - JPEG is the standard picture format.
6. Click on Save picture.

How to compress all the photos in a folder:

1. Open Pixreziser
2. Select "Work with multiple files"
3. Select the folder containing the original images
4. Click on the destination folder for the compressed files you’re making
5. Select new image size
6. Select file format
7. Click on Save picture

It’s useful to know that you may retain the folder’s original organization when you’re working with several photos, just by ticking the box "Subfolders". Another good thing  about this program is that you can change the type of format the images are saved in to one of the following: BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIF or PNG. If you wish only to change the format without changing the size of the file (the resolution), select 100% in the field for available sizes. Pixreziser can be downloaded here!
